Dear Siddivi,

Thank you for your question.
In curtain wall system, fire can spread to upper floors by two ways 1) gap between curtain wall and concrete slab 2) leap frog effect: in this situation fire breaks the curtain wall glass; moves out and then due to wind moves to upper floors.
The gap between CW and concrete slab must be closed by approved firestop material which has flame and smoke resistance capabilities. In Hilti we have CFS SP WB firestop material which with minieral wool provides upto 2 hours of fire rating for the gap.
The leap frog effect can normally be delayed by providing a min. spandrel height (normally specified 916mm in IBC and UAE fire codes).
In short, a complete firestoping system is combination of gap closing and a minimum of spandrel.
So, the answer to your question is, for non-fire rated glass a properly designed spandrel can delay fire.

Hope that will be answer to your question.

Regards
Usman
